Super Smash Bros. Wii U game director Masahiro Sakurai and the development team seems to have been hard at work on creating a more competitive experience for potential combatants as new gameplay mechanics have been announced today on Miiverse.
According to Sakurai, there are assortments of changes made to how fighting for the edge of the stage will occur. Invincibility while hanging on the ledge will greatly depend on the damage and air time that your character has accumulated. No longer will ‘edge hogging’ be an option.
This slight tweak makes a lot of sense. Fighting for that second wind is a toughie, especially on stages like Final Destination. However, using as many projectile items as possible to swat away your enemy from the ledge was always a great counter-tactic.
Considering the decline in business efficiency, the Super Smash Bros. Wii U title should be an instant classic and a hit for Nintendo if they keep up with these slight tweaks that evoke the best out of competitive nature in gameplay.
