The largest and most popular fighting game tournament known as EVO has become a phenomenon in itself. Whether it’s Street Fighter or King of Fighters, skilled players from around the world come together in Las Vegas, Nevada to battle it out, and they will do so again this year at EVO 2014.
On a short weekend between July 11 through 13, Evo 2014 will take center stage at the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. The lineup of games will feature some returning titles as well as two new titles : Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Killer Instinct, Injustice: Gods Among Us, King of Fighters XIII and BlazBlue: Chorno Phantasma.
Considering that USFIV drops in June and BlazBlue: CP in March, it’ll be interesting to see how some of the top-ranked players such as Daigo, Justin Wong and Inflitration handle some of the changes that have been made in both updates of the game.
EVO and SRK are in talks with Nintendo about Super Smash Bros. making it’s return to the lineup, but considering Nintendo’s issue as of late and the incident concerning videos of EVO matches taken down per Nintendo’s request, the likelihood of it happening doesn’t seem very high.
“While we are engaged in preliminary discussions with EVO about their upcoming event in July, the potential role of any Nintendo software at this event is undetermined at this time,” reads a statement from Nintendo.
A trailer for the event is below and spectators are welcome to book their hotel rooms right now if they want to. Registration to participate in the event hasn’t been released yet, and probably won’t until around April, which is usual for EVO.
