Disney Interactive has gone through several bouts of layoffs in recent years and the company had already started letting several employees go earlier this year. Unfortunately, news broke that the studio is again intending to reduce its workforce, this time by about 26%. That works out to about a whopping 700 jobs worldwide.
“As a result of this restructuring, we have undergone a reduction in workforce. These actions were difficult but necessary given our long-term strategy focused on sustainable profitability and innovation,” said president James Pitaro. “These are large-scale changes as we focus not just on getting to profitability but sustained profitability and scalability.”
Despite the immense success of Disney Infinity, the cuts are the result of the studio losing about $200 million per year between 2008 and 2012. Hopefully those affected will be able to rebound quickly.
