The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has announced that he and his company Skybound Interactive are teaming up with Overkill Software and Starbreeze to create a brand new The Walking Dead game. Best known for PayDay 2, Overkill’s The Walking Dead will be a Co-Op experience that combines elements of action, role-playing, survival horror, and stealth.
I’m a huge fan of what Overkill and Starbreeze have been able to do with PayDay 2,” Robert Kirkman wrote on Steam. “It’s just an amazing co-operative game and I’m excited to be able to announce that Skybound is partnering with Overkill to make a Walking Dead game. I’m happy to say that it’s the co-op game that all of the Walking Dead fans have been waiting for.”
The Walking Dead will not interfere with Overkill Software’s ongoing commitment to PayDay 2. In fact, players can now get the Lucille weapon for free. Walking Dead fans will recognize this barbed-wired baseball bat as the weapon of choice of antagonist Negan.
This game will take place in the AMC TV show’s canon, but will follow a different group of survivors in Washington. The release of Overkill’s The Walking Dead will have effect on the story of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead. The game is a long ways off and won’t be released until 2016, and platforms have not been announced.
