Layoffs Hit Lord of the Rings Online Developer

The games industry is fickle. One day, your company is practically printing money with a successful franchise, and the next you’re downsizing staff. Such is business, and developer Turbine (The Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons & Dragons Online) will soon be laying off several employees as part of a “strategic alignment,” said a Warner Bros rep to Joystiq.

“Unfortunately, in order for us to invest in growth areas at Turbine, we have to eliminate some positions. These are always tough decisions, which we don’t approach lightly, but it’s crucial that Turbine is structured in a way that reflects the current and coming marketplace.”

The company’s in-development project, Infinite Crisis (a DC Universe MOBA) will not be affected by the coming changes, and eager gamers should expect a release date soon.
