Pre-Owned Games Coming to a Walmart Near You

Retail juggernaut Walmart has today announced that they’ve launched a video game trade-in program  across 1,700 stores in the United States.

Finally, Walmart shoppers will be able to add pre-owned games to their cart-fulls of boxed wine, diapers and string cheese, as well as exchange their own games (presumably from 8th generation consoles only) for vouchers good at any Walmart or Sam’s Club location, retail or online (a service that has been available since late March). There will not be any cash trade-in program at launch.

Although this is certainly a strange move, it makes sense when taking into consideration Walmart’s (probable) plans to take over the entire retail universe. Also, while no details were provided regarding console trade-ins, it’s to be expected… so, goodbye GameStop?
