Nintendo fans rejoice; long-time Chief Executive Officer of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, has recovered well enough from his surgery in June (that removed a tumor in his bile duct) to return to office and resume his regular work duties.
The executive’s comments came as he presented Nintendo’s quarterly earnings in his first appearance before reporters since just before E3. He mentioned that he has lost weight, but feels healthier.
Iwata has been under fire in recent years over Nintendo’s quirky decision making and declining popularity and sales, specifically around the Wii U, but perhaps things are turning around, as Nintendo reported an unexpected quarterly operating profit thanks to improved sales of the console.
This has likely been helped at least in part by the recent successes of Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, and of course, the Smash Bros. hype train. We wish Iwata-san a long and healthy career moving forward.
