Last quarter, Nintendo pushed 1.12 million Wii U consoles, bringing its total sales to 7.29 million units. The company has struggled to push the tablet-bearing console since launch, despite a plethora of first-party titles.
With forecast losses following the company’s continual failing hardware numbers, Nintendo logged a 215 million yen ($2 million) operating profit between July and September, 2014. The company’s predicting a 40 billion yen ($370 million) annual profit.
Industry chatter suggests Nintendo’s upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is to thank for the turnaround, given the 3DS versions 3.22 million units sold since release. Whether the company’s fortune will succeed the anticipated brawlers launch remains to be seen.
