It’s Official: Xbox One Returns to $400

Microsoft kept their promise: their special holiday promotion that dropped the price of the Xbox One without Kinect to $350 has officially ended. It was exactly one week ago when Microsoft warned us that the Xbox One price would revert to $400 by the end of January 3, and they lived up to that warning.

The $50 price drop was announced October 2014 right in time for the holiday season. Microsoft needed a way to beat the PS4, which was marching towards 11-months of dominance, and this price cut was exactly what it needed to boost sales. For the first time in 10 months, the Xbox One outsold the PS4 in North America, and while we’re still waiting for December 2014’s NPD results, but all signs point to another win for Microsoft. With both the PS4 and Xbox One back at $400, it will be interesting to see if Sony’s console reclaims victory in January.

Now, if you act quickly, you can still get an Xbox One or an Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Unity bundle for a slightly cheaper price from Amazon. The price will likely revert to $400 when stock runs out.
