Nintendo Has Sold Over 5 Million Amiibo

Nintendo’s Q3 financial results released today revealed that the Japanese company has sold over 5.7 million amiibo, merely months after the toy line’s launch last November. The sales show promise for the future of Nintendo’s figurines, but analysts and collectors alike argue that the Kyoto-based company could have sold millions more if they had been properly stocked in stores. The engineered scarcity of amiibo since launch has undoubtedly contributed to their popularity and collectability, but many prospective buyers have also been turned away disappointed after learning their favorite Super Smash Bros. character would not be restocked.

Even so, the early success of amiibo is more than evident, and with more and more games incorporating the figurines on the horizon, Nintendo could have an enormous hit on its hands.
