UPDATE: Nick Chester of Harmonix has responded to our inquiry and said, “…as far as I know, we don’t have an Edge cover story and obviously haven’t announced a new Rock Band. […] I honestly couldn’t tell you what it’s in relation to.” It’s entirely possible that this tease has nothing to do with Rock Band, but if it does, there’s no way Harmonix would be able to confirm it a full month before the planned reveal, so the rumor could still go either way.
ORIGINAL: A Twitter account called lifelower that focuses mostly on new Xbox Live Arcade releases had two very interesting tweets today: The first simply posted a video of the upcoming March cover of EDGE magazine featuring Fable Legends, easily confirmed with a simple trip over to the magazine’s website. The second, though, was much more cryptic, featuring a dial on an amp turning to 10 and teasing a reveal date of March 12 that could imply a new Rock Band title.

Of course, there’s no way to know for sure yet, but given the recent surveys Harmonix has been putting out and the new DLC they recently dropped after a long hiatus to test the waters and see if players are still interested in the series, it would make a lot of sense that they were finalizing details to prepare for a big reveal like hitting the cover of EDGE. It’s clear that Harmonix has been thinking very seriously about what a new Rock Band game would look like, and it’d be a big enough news story to warrant this kind of teasing.
There’s also speculation that it could be a reference to Turn 10 Studios and the upcoming Forza Motorsport 6, but given that it’s a music amp dial, the signs point a little more strongly toward Rock Band.
We’ve reached out to Harmonix and EDGE for clarification and will report back with any response.
What do you think it could mean? And if it is a Rock Band game, what would you want it to be?
