The Last Guardian Trademark Abandoned By Sony

The long, winding road of the next Team ICO project The Last Guardian has become almost mythic for its place in development hell, but a recent trademark drop could mean that it’s finally time to end this ride.

According to the website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the trademark for The Last Guardian has been abandoned today. The reason was cited as “no Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued.”

Of course, the abandoning of the trademark doesn’t necessarily mean the project is over, as it could simply be under a new name right now. However, the incredibly sparse amount of information regarding the game since its public reveal in 2009 hasn’t given fans much hope.

We don’t want to give up on this title, as it still mystifies and intrigues us to this day, but without its now-iconic trademark to give the game a name, the dream seems less likely to become a reality. Stay with Hardcore Gamer for any news on this elusive project’s future.
