If you’re a guy (or gal) whose interests include any or all of the following — space, jousting, and narwhals — then boy (or girl), do I have the game for you. Starwhal, a 48-hour game jam project originally released in 2013, is finally making its way to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles on February 24 for $11.99.
In Starwhal, you and up to three other friends will each control a narwhal in space, floating around and trying to poke each other to death. It’s a simple, if odd, concept, but it gets frenetic with multiple players. For its updated console release, the game will feature new modes like challenge courses with leaderboards, costumes for your starwhal, new special effects, and an expanded soundtrack.
On PlayStation 3, the game will run at 30 frames per second, but on PlayStation 4, it will run at 60 fps and a full 1080p for what the developer calls “the definitive, most responsive, hyper-accurate simulation of spikeyheaded whales battling against the stars.”
