Tembo the Badass Elephant Announced as Sega/Game Freak Collaboration

Last week’s odd Sega and Game Freak postcard involving an elephant finally makes sense. Today, Tembo the Badass Elephant was announced complete with a trailer on Sega Europe’s channel. Game Freak will be developing it with Sega acting as the publisher and this game starring a badass elephant looks pretty kick-ass. You’ve got a Rambo-inspired elephant running amok to kill as many enemies as possible and save the folks of Shell City while also solving a few minor traversal puzzles in the process.

In an interview, James Turno of Game Freak talked about the game’s inspirations coming from pop culture like Rambo and Dumbo to gaming influences like Metal Slug, Yoshi’s Island, Donkey Kong Country, and Final Fight. Their own game HarmoKnight served as a bit of an inspiration as well since this is going to be a very fast-paced game with a heavy emphasis on action. Despite Game Freak’s long association with Nintendo, it’s not coming out for any Nintendo systems just yet. Instead, it will be coming to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Future releases on Nintendo platforms, iOS, and Android aren’t ruled out completely, but aren’t planned.
