Midway has arcade classics like Mortal Kombat, Terminator 2: The Arcade Game, and NBA Jam under its belt, and a former employee is looking to Kickstarter to support the development of a documentary to look back on the company’s glory days.
The Kickstarter for the documentary, titled Insert Coin, was created by Josh Tsui, a programmer for Midway in the 1990s. He seeks $75,000 to make the documentary about Midway’s insane work environment, canceled games, and “the culture of Midway Games and arcades in the 90’s and how it affected how games were developed.”
“Insert Coin talks to the developers of each game and lays out how all the games were made and how they connected with each other,” Tsui says in the Kickstarter description. “Every game had its own unique story about victories, setbacks, and general mayhem. Only someone from the inside can understand the context of events and ask the right questions.”
If funded, the documentary is expected to come out in May 2017. If you’re interested in Insert Coin, then be sure and check out the Kickstarter page — $15 gets you a digital copy upon release, with higher reward tiers that include physical copies, shirts, and more.
