Larry Hyrb, AKA Xbox’s Major Nelson, has announced that the next Xbox One firmware update will lay down the framework for a new user-interface design that is set to launch at some point this year.
Xbox One Update coming tonight. No major features but includes small fixes to party chat and prep for the new UI coming later this year.

This update is set to launch later tonight, and could mean that this update is coming sooner in the Fall rather than near the end of the year. After all, if a user-interface redesign was coming in December, would Microsoft really be updating their firmware to prepare for this in August? One this is definitely certain though: the days of Kinect-focused UI will be over soon enough.
