For those who are not only aware of smartphone VR, but also use it, Square Enix has announced the release of “The Wingsuit Experience”, a 360 degree VR app featuring the world of upcoming open-world action game Just Cause 3.
Best experienced with things like Google’s Cardboard VR (a make-shift VR headset for your smartphone consisting of lenses and cardboard), The Wingsuit Experience puts viewers right there in the mid-air action of Just Cause 3 protagonist Rico Rodriguez skydiving in his wingsuit. Viewers can use their smartphone’s gyrometer to rotate their view and get a nice look at the in-game Mediterranean island of Medici.
Bon Bakker, founder of Mindlight, the developer of The Wingsuit Experience, gave a quick rundown of how the VR app was made:
“In order to show the world of Just Cause 3 in 360-degrees, in-game, we’ve captured over 10 TB of high resolution data to bring you this experience. This will allow you to immerse yourself in the most explosive sandbox ever made, ahead of the game’s release this December.”
Take a look at the app’s trailer below for more details. The Wingsuit Experience, brought to you by Just Cause 3, is now available on the iOS App Store and the Android Google Play Store for free.
Bear in mind, older smartphones may not handle the VR very well. For more on Just Cause 3, check out our preview of the game right here.
