New Trailer for SMTxFE Is As Colorful as Ever

So, when ATLUS and Nintendo finally pulled back the curtain on their upcoming cross-over JRPG epic, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem–known as Genei Ibun Roku ♯FE in Japan–people were taken aback. It seems that most expected the game to borrow from Shin Megami’s dark, gritty world and Fire Emblem’s exemplary tactical combat… But what we ultimately got was something far closer to Persona x [insert idol anime here].

Sure, it’s hard to see the Fire Emblem part of things in the final product, barring some cameo appearances and character designs that look a bit more influenced by the heralded SRPG franchise than SMT per se; but even still, when we saw that official unveiling trailer we were hooked. Some may scoff at the neon color palette and idol-influences, but we personally love the look of both the aesthetics and gameplay. Which is why we’ve devoured every piece of information that has been released thus far.

Today, then, is a good day because we get some new footage of the game. In this latest Japan trailer, we get a little bit of everything: characters, combat, exploration, and beautiful animated cutscenes. It’s not a particularly long montage, clocking in at just over a minute or so, but what’s there is some real eye candy. While we don’t have a date for the North American release, Nintendo has confirmed that we here in the West will get the game sometime next year.

So, to ease the wait, go ahead and check out the trailer yourself. Let us know what you think of it in the comments section!
