Yep, that’s right, a trademark has gone active for a game entitled “Valkyria of the Blue Revolution,” seemingly indicating that a new Valkyria Chronicles game may be in the works. If so, this would be the first new installment in the series in nearly five years. For those not in the know, Valkyria Chronicles was originally a PlayStation 3 SRPG–now it’s on Steam–that blends expert storytelling with even more expert strategy combat in the vein of Fire Emblem-meets-a-third-person-shooter. With a beautiful aesthetic and rock-solid mechanics, it’s easy to see why the game has become something of a prized possession for those who know of it/played it.
Apparently SEGA registered the trademark earlier this month on the 2nd with the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office under the name “Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria.” A quick translation roughly comes out as the aforementioned “Valkyria of the Blue Revolution.” There’s no hard evidence that concretely points to this being a new Valkyria Chronicles, however, it doesn’t take much of a jump in logic to put the pieces together. Now let’s just hope this isn’t some mobile project. With Sega’s recent downsizing and announcement that they are focusing on mobile and PC gaming first and foremost, it does give us pause. Nevertheless, we’ve got our fingers crossed that this means something more than just another throwaway mobile cash-grab. (Though to be honest, a lot of SEGA’s mobile games aren’t half bad, for being mobile games.)
