Star Wars: Battlefront is all about large multiplayer battles, but sometimes, you just want to play a more personal game mode with a friend or against AI. This is where Battles and Hero Battles come in.
Battles is the closest thing Star Wars: Battlefront has to Instant Action from the previous Battlefront games. It can be played solo against AI, 1vs1 against one another, or cooperatively against an AI army. The goal is to defeat enemies and reach 100 points before your enemy does. Do so and you win the match.
Hero Battles is a similar experience, except that you’re fighting as one of the heroes. You have Luke, Han Solo, and Princess Leia for the Rebels, and Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Emperor Palpatine for the Empire. This is the mode you’ll want to play if you’re looking to wield immense power. Heroes aren’t invincible, however, and you’ll need to make use of health pickups across the map.
Much like Instant Action from previous Battlefront games, Battles and Hero Battles can be played on all of the Star Wars: Battlefront planets. However, Sullust and Hoth will feature maps designed exclusively for these modes.
“I have a soft spot for playing Battles on Sullust,” said Lead Designer Jim Fagerlund. “You’ll see so many cool moments there, fighting among the hangars, catwalks, and huge AT-ATs that the scenery consists of. In particular, when Luke and Vader are fighting here, the atmosphere is great and you see shades of their duels in the original film trilogy.”
Star Wars: Battlefront is out November 17 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
