With the eagerly-anticipated Just Cause 3 hitting shelves in a little over a month’s time, you’d think news around developer Avalanche Studios would be right as rain. Well, in a statement given to Game Informer over the weekend, Avalanche have confirmed they have laid off around two dozen staff members – the process starting sometime earlier this year following the release of their previous open-World big-hitter, Mad Max. Both the US and Sweden offices were affected by these changes in staff.
In a statement, a representative from Avalanche explained: ‘We have just completed one project and are currently wrapping up another. In starting up our new projects, we were not able to perfectly match the team sizes and skill sets of the previous ones, and we unfortunately had to let some talented developers go.’ Avalanche have however confirmed they are currently in the process of re-hiring some of the employees they originally let go with the process expected to continue into early next year.
‘This unfortunate event does not affect any of our current projects,’ the company reassured its fans, ‘and we’re taking measures to avoid situations like this in the future.’. Just Cause 3 launches December 1 for PS4, Xbox One & PC.
