PlayStation VR may have a launch window if GameStop CEO Paul Raines is to be believed.
There has been intense speculation as to when Sony plans on launching PlayStation VR. All we know is that Sony intends to release the VR headset sometime in 2016. However, Paul Raines may have given us a clue that further narrows the release window down.
Speaking with Fox Business, Raines let slip that, “We will launch the Sony product this fall,” when asked about PlayStation VR. He also notes that GameStop is “in discussions with the other two players,” with the other two being Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.
Sony has not released any statements regarding the launch window of PlayStation VR, and GameStop has yet to issue a statement regarding Raines’ comments. For now, take this with a grain of salt. In terms of competition, the HTC Vive pre-orders open on February 29 and will be released in April, though no price has been announced yet. The Oculus Rift is set for a March release at a price of$599.99. We’ll update you should Sony make any announcements regarding PlayStation VR’s release date or price.
