In a press release earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment announced the formation of ForwardWorks. Aiming to “deploy new services toward the ever-expanding smart device market”, it seems that the studio will be used to develop for the myriad of mobile devices that support games. The release states the studio’s intention to bring “fully fledged game titles” to phones and other devices. While this might not be the most exciting news, further details given in the press release are certain to raise some speculation.
“ForwardWorks will leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation® dedicated software titles and its gaming characters as well as the knowledge and know-how of gaming development expertise which was acquired over the years with PlayStation®”
It seems that ForwardWorks will be contributing further content for Playstation franchises. It will be interesting to see what the newly formed studio can achieve. ForwardWorks will commence operation in April and will be initially focusing on the markets of Japan and Asia.
