The Last Of Us and Uncharted Movies Still Happening, Just Not Right Now

While both The Last Of Us and the Uncharted movie will still be happening, it seems that both blockbusters have somewhat stalled in their development, according to Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog’s Creative Director. In an interview with IGN, Druckmann said that his involvement on both projects is limited, but both are still happening, it’s just a matter of when.

“I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do,” Druckmann said. “There hasn’t been any work done on it in over a year and a half.” What this could mean for the casting of Maisie Williams as Ellie, we don’t know, but for now it’s all up in the air.

The Uncharted movie, however, has a more set-in-stone schedule, with a tentative release date of June 30th, 2017. Druckmann told IGN that while he wrote the script for The Last Of Us movie, the Uncharted movie is being handled more by Sony Pictures. “Every once in a while they’ll come in and they’ll present to us: here’s the script, here’s what we’re thinking. We’ll tell them what we think works, what we think doesn’t work,” said Druckmann. “That’s where we’re at. Last I heard is they got a new screenwriter, but we haven’t seen anything in a while.”

The Creative Director also gave some advice to the Uncharted movie makers, saying that the key to a good Uncharted story is well crafted relationships between the Nate, Elena, and Sully trio. “The most important part to get right is Nathan Drake, Nathan Drake’s relationship with Elena and Nathan Drake’s relationship with Sullivan. If you don’t get that right, I don’t think the film’s going to work. If you get that core right, there’s a chance it could work.”
