For those in the readership who are not avid adventure game fans, the original Syberia and its sequel – Syberia 2 – are considered cult classics in the adventure game genre. Now years later, developer Microïds and original series creator Benoit Sokal have returned to make a new chapter in series protagonist Kate Walker’s life with Syberia 3. Some newcomers to the series may see similarities between Kate and Lara Croft, as the story of the upcoming game starts with Kate adrift on a makeshift boat. She’s found and saved by a caravan of Youkol, familiar faces from Syberia 2. Together, Kate journeys with the Youkol nomads as they bring their snow ostriches on a seasonal migration. All the while, they steadily evade a common enemy.
This time around, the game is intended to have a more cinematic feel, mimicking animated feature films. Composer Inon Zur (Dragon Age 2, Fallout 4, Syberia 2) is back on board as well to give it a rich, sweeping score. Syberia 3 will feature English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Korean, Polish, Russian, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese languages.
