The much-anticipated reveal for PlayStation 4 NEO may be happening sooner than anyone expected.
Since Sony opted to skip revealing the PS4 NEO at E3 and Gamescom this year, it has long been expected that they would reveal the upcoming hardware at Tokyo Game Show at the end of September. It would make sense considering Sony is a Japanese company, and they have used TGS in the past to make important announcements (PS Vita Slim, PS3 “Superslim”). However, a new report suggests Sony has more exclusive plans.
Apparent sources have told French website Gameblog that Sony will formally announce the PS4 NEO on September 7 in New York. The announcement would likely be held at a special event. Sony has taken to New York before to announce hardware. Back in 2013, Sony revealed the original PS4 at a special event in New York.
Obviously, this needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Gameblog has reported on rumors from “sources” before, and a few have been true. This year, they accurately predicted that Resident Evil 7 and its VR mode, and Injustice 2 would be announced at E3 2016. So, it’s entirely possible that this is correct, and just as possible it’s not. Nothing is official until Sony makes an announcement.
PS4 NEO is expected to launch October 13 alongside PlayStation VR. The new PS4 model is expected to feature much more powerful hardware that will help games run more smoothly at higher resolutions, and give the PS VR a performance boost. Rival hardware Nintendo NX is also expected to be revealed in September, but won’t launch until March 2017.
