Cryptic Studios Details the Console Version of Star Trek Online

To be entirely up front, I have never paid too much attention to Star Trek Online. Yes, I am a fan of the series, both the classic and Abramized versions, but the title was always on the periphery of my vision, something that I figured I would check out when I have time. Some hands on time at this last E3 has shown me that I was wrong to overlook it, and the newly released developer overview video has just cemented my stupidity. There goes even more of my free time…

The video, which can be seen below, details the improvements and customization that is going into the console version of the long running MMO. Showing before (PC version) and after (new console version) images to get a sense of the new lighting and graphics, as well as explaining the work that went into customizing the controller input and updating the interface is very interesting. The console release will also catch players up, with eleven seasons of content and two major expansions. When Perfect World Entertainment publishes this title later this year, it will be free to play. Xbox One players will need Gold, while PlayStation 4 will not need Plus to enjoy. As far as how they make their money, Star Trek Online will have tons of cosmetic stuff to enjoy, as well as the crates. Crates are free. Opening the crates is not. Still, the developer’s work on the excellent Neverwinter leads one to believe that this will be a quality experience for console gamers.
