Ramin Djawadi is taking a break from the world of Westeros for trip to Sera.
Emmy- and Grammy-nominated Ramin Djawadi, best known for his work composing the score to HBO’s Game of Thrones, is composing the score for Gears of War 4. Speaking with the Associated Press, Djawadi revealed that while he aims to remain faithful to what came before, he is determined to put his own spin on the Gears of War franchise.
“Obviously, I wanted to make it very different from ‘Game of Thrones,'” said Djawadi. “Whenever I approach a new project, I want to make sure I’m setting up a new sound – even through we’re still using a lot of orchestra and percussion.”
Djawadi, speaking about the score, says it will be emotional and orchestral with synth elements. While Gears of War has always had a good score, it’s never really been able to spark strong emotions like Game of Thrones can. The ultimate goal with Gears of War 4’s core is to really push emotion.
“There are some really nice scenes that are probably unexpected for ‘Gears,’ where we’re really pushing the emotional undertones with strings.”
Gears of War 4 is out October 11 on Xbox One and PC. The finished score will likely be released sometime in the neat future. Here’s a quick look at one of his most emotional pieces from Game of Thrones.
