Hideo Kojima’s contribution to the gaming industry was recognized tonight at the 2016 Game Awards. Geoff Keighley presented the award to Kojima-san emphasizing his projects that made him well known in the industry including Zone of the Enders and the Metal Gear franchise. Keighley also brought to attention to last year’s controversy of Konami not allowing Kojima to attend last year’s Game Awards when Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was nominated for Game of the Year and won best Action/Adventure Game. After Keighley’s heartfelt words, Kojima came onto the stage thanking his fans for sticking with him for so many years. The audience roared with applause. His acceptance speech was closed with a trailer of his current project Death Stranding.
