Appropriately enough, given that it’s been exactly one year since the sequel’s announcement, developers GalaxyTrail Games are now ready to unleash some of the first gameplay footage for Freedom Planet 2 upon us. The follow-up to 2014’s hit homage to Sonic the Hedgehog and other ’90s platformers is currently in the works for PC and various Nintendo platforms, and now we get to have our first true taste of what the game is like in action.
As stated by the developers, the current plan is to showcase a new video of each playable heroine over the next few weeks in order to display their abilities, gameplay styles, and revamped artwork. And as you can see below, they’re starting out with main dragon girl Lilac. We get to see a new parrying mechanic, the ability to revive on the spot, and a Boost Breaker allowing her to leave explosions as she jumps out of boosts, along with glimpses of levels taking place in museums and the outdoors, among other things. It looks quite impressive indeed, so here’s hoping the other character trailers (and the game as a whole, of course) deliver as well. No word on a release date yet, but keep an eye out for Freedom Planet 2 in the future.
