When I got a chance to play through the beginning segment of MachineGames and Bethesda’s upcoming Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, the biggest thing that impressed me was just how interesting playing the physically wrecked BJ Blaskowicz actually was. Despite portraying him as being wheelchair bound, he was still a Nazi murdering machine, with plenty of entertaining options for subterfuge and all out roll and gun. While this wasn’t representative of the full game, and he will be walking and running before long, this sequence was effective at establishing the fact that nothing can be taken for granted in this story. Bethesda released a video today showcasing a short conversation about this moment, the design philosophy behind it, and why the developers believe it just works. It’s worth taking a couple of minutes to check out. In the meantime, Wolfenstein II will release, along with pretty much every other game ever made, on October 27.
