Ubisoft to Open New Studio in Stockholm

Ubisoft has today announced they are opening a new studio Stockholm, Sweden. The studio will be led by industry vet Patrick Bach at the helm, coming from being former studio manager of EA DICE in Stockholm. Ubisoft Stockholm plans on working closely with the team at Massive in Malmö on AAA titles. In the blog announcement, Patrick had a few things to say himself giving us a bit more insight into the man behind the wheel at Ubisoft’s new studio.

Bach has been working as a developer for 17 years, 15 of those years being at EA DICE in Stockholm, working on games such as RalliSport Challenge 2, Battlefield Bad Company 1 and 2, Battlefield 3 and 4 and oversaw the team developing Star Wars Battlefront, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and Battlefield 1. Needless to say, Bach’s got an extensive belt.

The reason for joining Ubisoft Stockholm is that Patrick realized he shared a lot of the same thinking when it came to creativity and practicality when making games.

“I feel like I will be able to use my potential in a new and different way in the Ubisoft family. I’m also looking forward to working with new world class colleagues around the world.”

Bach also shares his enthusiasm for heading a new studio in Stockholm for the wealth of experience already based out of Stockholm.

“Stockholm is one of the great gaming hubs of the world with a huge pool of experienced and creative talent.”

The studio has just been announced and already games are being discussed, Ubisoft working with Massive on their recently announced Avatar game.

“To make great games you need a great team, a clear vision, great working conditions and a company backing you and supporting those pillars.”

And yes, Ubisoft is recruiting as of today, with the goal of growing the studio to 100 in the span of two years. Not only will this create 100 new jobs in Stockholm, but Massive is continuing to recruit for 200 positions in Malmö, meaning Ubisoft is creating 300 new jobs in Sweden for the next two years.
