Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed new sales milestones for PS4 and PS VR, and things are looking pretty good for the PlayStation brand.
Coming off a record Black Friday season, Sony has revealed new sales info for PS4, PS VR, and software for both platforms. As of December 3, 2017, 70.6 million PS4 units have been sold through to consumers. An impressive number, this latest statistic puts the console within ten million units of it’s predecessor, the PS3. On top of this, 617.8 million PS4 games have been sold through retail stores and digitally.
Adding to the PS4’s success is PS VR, which, as of December 3, 2017, has sold through more than 2 million units to consumers. More than 12.2 million games have been sold for PS VR.
“We are delighted that so many people are enjoying the unique entertainment proposition of PlayStation 4 and that an emerging technology like PlayStation VR continues to gain traction,” said Andrew House, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “I cannot thank our fans and partners enough. Their support, since the launch of very first PlayStation in 1994, has helped to make PlayStation one of the biggest console gaming network in the world. We will continue to work closely with partners to maintain this momentum and remain steadfast in making PS4 the best place to play.”
To say that these numbers are impressive would be an understatement. After struggling during the PS3 years, Sony came into the current generation swinging. The PS4 has managed to gain a huge sales lead over it’s competitors, and continues to sell well four years after launch. PS VR, which launched last year, continues to sell well, especially following great deals over Black Friday.
Going into 2018, Sony will continue to build on it’s 2017 momentum with a slew of exclusive titles. PlayStation players can expect to dig into titles like Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Days Gone among others.
