It’d be strange to see a serialized shounen manga and anime series not get a video game adaptation these days. From Bandai Namco comes Black Clover: Quartet Knights, an arena battle game where two teams of four players face off against eachother. For better or for worse, making a competitive battle game seems to be the norm for adapting a shounen series (think Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece) into a serviceable video game. This helps as Quartet Knights is a third-person shooter type of arena battler — putting players in over-the-shoulder view. It’s quite possible the position of the camera implies plenty of things about the mechanics of the game, specifically that it will shy away from matching the more complicated, combo-loving 2D fighting adaptions like Dragon Ball FighterZ. Four-on-four arena combat makes it flashier, easier to pick up, and placed in a less crowded space — at least in the West.
