2018 Independent Games Festival Finalists Announced

Just as awards season kicks into high gear for the film industry around this time of year, one of gaming’s most prestigious showcases and awards shows, the Independent Games Festival, also begins to emerge with details. After going through nearly six hundred entries, the judges have selected the final nominees for the main competition, and just as it’s been in years past, this latest crop of potential winners is a colorful bunch indeed.

This year the six nominees for the Seamus McNally Grand Prize include Night in the Woods, Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, Heat Signature, West of Loathing, Baba is You, and Into the Breach. Suprisingly, Baba is You and its unique presentation of a puzzle game where you can rewrite the rules leads with four nominations, while angsty anthropomorphic animal adventure Night in the Woods and deliberate frustration-inducing mountain-climbing sim Getting Over It follow with three noms apiece. Aside from that, other notable nominees include the likes of Cuphead, Tacoma, and even Tormentor X Punisher. You can check out the full list of nominees and honorable mentions (with links to info on each game) over on the official IGF site, then prepare for the IGF Awards on March 21 during the Game Developers Conference.
