2D action-platformers are back in style, and Vague Pixels is taking a stab at the genre with Alter Army. The game has a Steam page up – but doesn’t have much in the way of release information beyond it being released in the first quarter of 2018. Fortunately, you can get a taste of the action with a beta up on GameJolt now. You can hack up enemies to bits using what appears to be an electrified guitar and even use the environment around you to destroy foes. By carefully timing their movement with exploding barrels, then you can make short work of giant enemies and make speedier progress. The beta isn’t quite jaw-dropping, but it does act as a fantastic proof of concept since even in a beta form, the game does control fairly well.
