Kaz Hirai, the current Sony CEO who played a large role in the history of the previous three PlayStation consoles, has announced his plans to step down as CEO later this year.
On April 1, Hirai will no longer be CEO of Sony, instead stepping down to director, chairman leaving CFO Kenichiro Yoshida to fill the vacated seat. Hirai joined Sony Computer Entertainment in 1995 before eventually becoming President in 2006. Hirai was later promoted to CEO of Sony in 2012, where he continued to oversee SCEA as Chairman for the past five years.
