Deadpool 2 director has signed on to direct the film adaptation of The Division starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain.
Deadpool 2 is weeks out, and production for the ‘Fast and Furious’ spin-off is set to begin this fall, but director David Leitch already has his next project lined up. The stunt coordinator-turned-director will work on adapting Ubisoft’s The Division for the silver screen. Prep on the movie is expected to kickoff at some point in 2019.
The Division will be based on the 2015 video game that saw a virus released on Black Friday that decimated New York City. Secret agents working for the Division are called in to scour the city and discover who was responsible for the attack. Though the game was a best-seller, it came under heavy fire for it’s myriad of glitches and broken online encounters. Ubisoft has since worked to rectify the game’s shortcomings and recently announced a sequel, The Division 2.
David Leitch is best known for his expertly choreographed action sequences. He made his directorial debut with John Wick before moving on to Atomic Blonde, which would then help him get the directing job for Deadpool 2. His next film, the Fast and Furious spin-off, stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
