Microsoft Acquires inXile, Obsidian Entertainment

Microsoft have added two more studios to their growing roster of first-party and second-party developers, following the surprise announcement that Xbox had acquired UK-based Ninja Theory (among other) — developers of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice — during this year’s E3. First up was California-based inXile Entertainment whom are behind the likes of The Bard’s Tale series as well as Wasteland, the latter of which has its third entry releasing sometime next year.

But even more surprising — though it has been rumoured prior to the start of this year’s XO18 event — was that Obsidian Entertainment, developers of such games like Alpha Protocol, the fantastic Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth and the acclaimed Pillars of Eternity (along with its sequel), would be joining inXile as the second unveiling earlier this evening. Here’s hoping they can give the Xbox platform a viable source for some good future RPG titles in the coming years.
