Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution Teaser Hints at CGI Remake of First Film

A brand new trailer for the next Pokémon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, appears to confirm it’s a remake of the very first film.

For a while now, Pokémon fans have speculated that the upcoming Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution would be a remake of Pokémon The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back. The titles are obviously similar, and, as Eurogamer points out, both have the same writers. Well, now there’s a teaser trailer that pretty much confirms the suspicions.

The trailer features footage from 1998 when the original film launched. It then flashes to say, “The Legend is Back,” before showing Mew and Mewtwo flying through the air. In a major change from the original, the remake features CGI graphics over the traditional 2D art style. As such, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is likely a CGI remake of the first film.

We’ll keep you updated as we head towards the film’s release. It’ll launch place twenty years after the original film hit North American theatres in 1999.
