Image & Form are ready to pull us back into the charming robotic-led aesthetic of SteamWorld once more, following on from 2017’s SteamWorld Dig 2 with their latest venture, unveiled earlier today during Nintendo’s Indie Highlights segment. And things, it seems, are taking a turn into differing genres and mechanics alike with the announcement of SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech.
Hand of Gilgamech focuses this time round on team-led, turn-based, role-playing battles with an emphasis on building a deck from around a hundred different cards. You only have your deck to rely on, meaning you have to be smart in how you approach impending battles. Naturally, all the regular flavor of traditional RPGs in plentiful supply here, complete with loot and XP aplenty, not to mention SteamWorld’s returning, hand-drawn visuals and inter-splicing of steampunk elements along the way. SteamWorld Quest has thus far been confirmed for releasing on Nintendo Switch sometime this year, though other platforms are planned for announcement in the near future. Check out the game’s debut trailer below.
