Hand-Drawn Western Shooter 12 is Better Than 6 Rolls onto Nintendo Switch

Those looking for more wild west excitement after putting down Red Dead Redemption 2 will be hard-pressed to find something else that can measure up. Western games are still a rather rare breed in the medium, with Rockstar’s take on it being the only title to come out in the last couple of years. Players need not hang up their spurs just yet though, because another Steam favorite has hopped onto the Nintendo Switch today. It’s not the massive simulator that Red Dead Redemption 2 is, but 12 is Better Than Six still has plenty of that Old West spirit.

12 is Better Than 6 is a top-down shooter following a man on a quest for revenge after he was wrongfully imprisoned. As his story plays out, players visit notable locations such as Austin, Houston and San Antonio. Trouble will always follow them where ever they go though, so they’ll also have plenty of period-accurate weapons on hand to defend themselves. 12 is Better than 6 boasts a unique mechanic that require players to handle each weapon differently. A Winchester repeating rifle can fire quickly without much hassle, but a revolver has to be cocked before each shot. If that’s too much hassle, one could always just send out a dynamite-rat to take care of things, or even just sneak by without engaging.

12 is Better Than 6 is no simulator, but it’s not the mindless shooter like most members of the top-down shooting genre. There’s a story to be had here, interesting places to see and unusual combat mechanics to explore if one feels like shooting at all. It’s been around for a while, but its still a good western in a medium starved for such. Why not give it a quick look?

12 is Better Than 6 is available on PC via Steam and on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
