F.I.S.T. Announced For PS4, Stars Robot Arm-Wielding Rabbit

Metroidvania is a genre that’s held a steady presence in gaming ever since the days of the original Metroid on the NES. It’s never been the “it” genre like platformers, first-person shooters or open-word sandbox games, but it’s never been in danger of disappearing either. The past few years have seen several excellent entries in the genre such as Ori and the Blind Forest Hollow Knight, and it looks like there’s plenty more on the way. We’ll be seeing Ori and the Will of the Wisps later this year, Hollow Knight: Silksong after that, and now a brand new contender has emerged in the form of F.I.S.T.

F.I.S.T. is the working title for this brand new game from Chinese developer TiGames. They describe it as a “dieselpunk” metroidvania wherein players control a very angry-looking rabbit with a giant mech arm strapped to their back. Players will have a very large world to explore, friendly NPCs to meet, discover new gear, and uncover some sort of conspiracy threatening the world. Sounds promising to say the least, eh?

Those wondering what “dieselpunk” is can look to games like Final Fantasy VII as an example. It’s characterized by a very utilitarian and industrial aesthetic, often filled with the piping and conduits that give diesel-based technologies their distinctive look. It’s basically like looking at a version of the world that overdeveloped diesel technology instead of progressing past it.

F.I.S.T. will be coming to the PlayStation 4 eventually, but has no release date as of yet. Those looking for something similar in the mean time need look no further than the aforementioned Hollow Knight or Ori and the Blind Forest. For a game with a somewhat similar aesthetic, Shadow Complex would be a good choice.
