E3 2019: Baldur’s Gate 3 Aims to be a Table Top Lover’s Dream Come True

Baldur’s Gate is arguably a series that has the best track record of turning classic Dungeons and Dragons into a reality of a game whether it’s the classic entries or the Dark Alliance spin-offs. It’s a series that’s easy to sink hours into without realizing and one that offers many different choices in how to approach every single situation. Larian Studios is most recently responsible for the highly-acclaimed Divinity Original Sin 2, which is similar in a lot of ways to Baldur’s Gate with a different take on fantasy. Baldur’s Gate 3 is aiming to do everything and more, all within the guidance of the Dungeons and Dragon 5th edition books.

A big thing about Baldur’s Gate 3 is making sure it’s more accessible for players to get into, whereas previous titles might be confusing upon first look. Players will be eased into the gameplay little by little as they start their adventure as dungeon master, watching their characters experience a journey unfold around them. It focuses heavily on following Dungeons and Dragons rule sets that many might be familiar with in order to really capture the feeling of sitting down and playing at a table top. Of course it will offer some variety without going too far outside of what’s familiar, but still feel like a true interpretation of DnD and Baldur’s Gate.

Although we haven’t seen any gameplay yet, Baldur’s Gate 3 is aiming to be the ultimate video game interpretation of Dungeons and Dragons. It plans to stay true to the rule books, while offering more options than ever before to the player. There’s a lot of ambition to behold in the works and hopefully it won’t be long until we see a little bit more of it come to life. Dungeons and Dragons is such a fantastic experience and Baldur’s Gate has been a beloved series and franchise for years, so it will be incredible to see it come together like the original entries in the modern gaming sphere. Although no release date yet, players should keep an eye out for more on Baldur’s Gate 3 down the road.
