Legendary Punk Band Refused Joins Cyberpunk 2077

We’ve seen several games with genres that use the “punk” suffix to denotes various styles or genres – steampunk, fungipunk, frostpunk, et cetera – but rarely do we see any with actual punk soundtracks. Well, Cyberpunk 2077 is going to change that. Legendary Swedish punk band Refused, best known for their 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come, will be providing the music for SAMURAI, the in-universe “chrome rock” band headed by Keanu Reeves’ character, Johnny Silverhand (who will have the singing voice of Refused vocalist Dennis Lyxzén, naturally). And yes, that means between this and the third Bill & Ted film, Keanu will be portraying two rock stars made famous in the ’80s in 2020.

The music provided will take the form of a Greatest Hits EP for SAMURAI, which will consist of both music inspired by the original source material and new music composed by Refused. You can listen to the first single from this project, “Chippin’ In” below via YouTube, or check it out on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. If it sounds familiar, that’s because a snippet of it appeared in the game’s E3 trailer. Cyberpunk 2077 comes out on April 16, 2020, and is now set to have a killer soundtrack.
