Sonic the Hedgehog Jumps Into Animation Again With OK K.O. Crossover

San Diego Comic-Con is currently going on this weekend, and while it’s typically one of the biggest times of the year for major pop culture announcements, major video game reveals there tend to be sparse. Which is understandable, given that most of them were already at E3 last month or will be at Gamescom or PAX West next month. Of course, there are always a few surprises. Case in point, the reveal that Sonic the Hedgehog will be heading to Cartoon Network in another new form. This time, as part of a crossover with the ongoing series OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes.

In the initial trailer below, we see our young hero K.O. working at Gar’s Bodega, with his friends Enid and Rad wiped out after playing a few video games. After a few familiar poses and a nod to Sonic 3D Blast, of all things, who should bust in but Sonic and Tails. And of course, being a fan of legendary heroes, K.O. is ecstatic. Given the show’s heavy video game influences, it feels like a natural fit.

The episode, simply titled “Let’s Meet Sonic,” will air on August 4, although details about the episode’s plot are still unknown. We don’t even know if Sonic and Tails are voiced here, and if they are, whether it’s Roger Craig Smith or Jaleel White doing Sonic’s voice. Seriously, given that this show did a crossover with Captain Planet earlier, bringing back the ’90s cartoon cast isn’t out of the question. Heck, we’re just happy this is getting us one step closer to the classic 2D Sonic cartoon that we wished for.
