New Death Stranding Trailer Introduces Us To Heartman

Ah, Death Stranding. Hideo Kojima’s next long-awaited game is only a few months away, and let we still have so much to learn about it. So know would be the perfect time to let little features like character spotlights begin, and we start with one first unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con. Here we get a slight introduction to Heartman, a member of the in-game organization BRIDGES. Played by Nicolas Winding Refn (director of such films as Drive, Only God Forgives, and The Neon Demon), he certainly shows that Kojima hasn’t lost his touch when it comes to clever characters.

As seen in the clip below, Heartman is a researcher who lives in 21-minute cycles. After his time is up, he dies, searches the unknown for his missing family, then gets resurrected via defibrillator. This has caused him to make some rather…odd adjustments to his life, as he points out. He explains this all to our hero Sam, and how he gets used to media he can consume in less than twenty-one minutes (recommending a Charlie Chaplin short) before he begins the hunt again. It certainly is an inspired idea for a character, and we’ll see more of Heartman when Death Stranding comes out for the PS4 on November 8.
