Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Open Beta Takes Place in September

Activision and Infinity Ward today announced the open beta dates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

As has become tradition for the Call of Duty franchise, players can get their hands on the game ahead of launch by participating in the upcoming beta. Infinity confirmed its existence today during the multiplayer reveal. What players can expect in the beta will be announced ahead of its start.

In a change from previous years, the Modern Warfare beta takes place over a longer period of time. Both the beta weekends contain five days of multiplayer action, up from the previous three days of past years. Players can test out the game’s cross-play functionality during the second weekend. Due to a timed-exclusivity deal between Activision and PlayStation, the first beta weekend is PS4 exclusive.

Here’s a breakdown on when you can play the beta:

  • Weekend 1: PlayStation Exclusive Beta
    • Early Access (Requires Pre-Order): September 12-13
    • Open Beta: September 14-16
  • Weekend 2: Cross-Play for all Platforms
    • Early Access (PC and Xbox One): September 19-20
    • Open Beta (PC and Xbox One): September 21-23
    • Open Beta (PS4): September 19-23
