UK-based studio Foam Sword’s debut outing, in the form of Knights & Bikes, has been in development for well over three years. After exceeding the team’s initial Kickstater for the project — including adding an online co-op mode as part of meeting the stretch goal — the game is just about ready to release, with the studio confirming the game will release across PS4 & PC on August 27. Knights & Bikes is described as an action-adventure set during the 1980’s, on the fictional British island of Penfurzy — focusing on the adventures of young protagonists Nessa and Demelza.
The developers — comprising members credited for such games like Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway — describe Knights & Bikes as a cross between The Goonies, Earthbound and Secret of Mana. No doubt the game’s hand-drawn, exaggerated use of color and shapes will draw some in, but time will tell if the coming-of-age story-led adventures, as described, can help keep players invested. Check out one of the game’s more recent trailers, when it appeared at last year’s E3, below to get a better idea on how it’s shaping up.
