Need for Speed Reveal Teased After Countdown Timer Emerges Online

Electronic Arts has dropped a tease about the new Need for Speed installment after updating the title’s official website with a countdown clock.

The countdown still has two days left on it at the time of this writing, and the reveal should be made on August 14.

Earlier this year, EA chief operating officer and chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen revealed that the publisher would be delivering “new Plants vs. Zombies and Need for Speed titles.”

And last month the Need for Speed publisher reiterated the development of a new title in the popular racing franchise and plans to launch the next installment before the end of March 2020.

“We’ll be delivering many other new experiences to players throughout the remainder of this fiscal year,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson told GameSpot in an investor call.

“We’ll take the wraps off our new Need for Speed game heading into Gamescom in a few weeks.

“We [also] have plans for a Plants Vs. Zombies shooter title, coming to console and PC later this year.”

The fan-favorite franchise celebrates its 25-year anniversary in 2019 and the new Need for Speed title’s reveal has been confirmed for Gamescom, which runs from August 20 to August 24 in Cologne, Germany.

The last entry in the series was Need for Speed Payback, which was released in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Hardcore Gamer’s review for Payback praised the “excellent livery editor and community features,” along with saying that the “core elements of Need for Speed Payback will keep fans playing for quite a while.”
